VICE4RAIL
Aims to accelerate the adoption of EGNSS for deploying efficient, resilient, and competitive ERTMS systems with the objective to establish an industry-accepted certification procedure backed by an innovative evaluation ecosystem. Key drivers are scalability, cost-efficiency and flexibility to validate technology-agnostic ASTP – Advanced Safe Train Positioning solutions.
A novelty is the realization of a Hybrid Virtualized Testing Certification Environment – HyVICE – based on the zero-on-site testing paradigm and comprising a dedicated testing facility on a RFI’s railway line connected with an ERTMS accredited laboratory.
This unique testing environment will provide to Infrastructure Manager, signalling industries, technology providers and stakeholders in the rail and space sectors an efficient means to assess the end-to-end performance of the ERTMS chain with multi-sensor GNSS-based positioning devices in operative scenarios. Yet, rare faults due to GNSS – difficult to experience on field but with a potential high impact on safety – will be accounted by proper modelling and simulations avoiding extensive and not exhaustive field tests.
The consortium includes RFI (FSI group) as project coordinator with SNCF, Italcertifer, Bureau Veritas, CEDEX, Sogei, the University of Pardubice, the University Gustave Eiffel and Radiolabs as members of the consortium.

OBJECTIVES
high level objectives
The certification of train control systems that comply with the ERTMS standard, which incorporates EGNSS technologies to localize trains, is critical, time-consuming, yet essential to bridge the current gaps preventing the adoption of EGNSS for highly regulated rail safety-critical applications…
